Much has been said and written about this classic over the years. Swades is probably last movie from the saddles of Bollywood which had (we call them) superstar actor(s) and mainstream director working together not to chase 100/200 crore club, but to create something beautiful, meaningful, long lasting and realistic piece of art! Its pity that none of today’s established actor/directors are looking keen to trace back and walk on the path of legacy Swades has created! Swades work on many levels, but I think what makes is so unique and repeat watch is its characters! As they say, every character written shall complete its circle at the end of story. And Swades does that beautifully! From protagonist Mohan Bhargava to flash and go water selling boy, everyone has their story to tell. Ashutosh Gowariker has taken his time to detail out each character and though that has made length of movie quite long for some, in the end each character leave its own impact. I personally like this movie very much! As like all Imtiaz Ali movies, there is strong current, that flows behind what we see on screen. Meera and Jay, they just don't want be like other couples, they distance themselves and play hide and seek but never realize, they were actually started coming closer with each such effort.. eventually love finds a way! This was great effort by Imtiaz Ali to convey that though time keeps changing, love never changes! Loved the way he portrayed his philosophy through beautiful songs, mentions of Laila-Majnu, Heer-Ranza through their conversations and love story of gusty Veer Singh! There are some dots, Imtiaz has connected beautifully like that 'Heer-Ranza, Laila Majnu' monologue Jay speaks at start and end of movie in contrasting circumstances, that is sheer genius of Writer Imtiaz! He conncts two completely different but yet very similar characters in different era through Jay and Veer Singh, their path runs very similar way! Meera i

Just came across this interesting chart of Grand Slam winners (Men) between 2005 and 2015. Roger Federer -17, Rafael Nadal -14 and Novak Djokovic-12; having three players with 12+ Grand Slam kitty, Tennis can not have superior golden era anytime soon. Actually it is an era of big four but having only 2 Grand Slams in pocket, Andy Murray is far from matching up with them. Numbers are always fascinating but when prime of more than one all time greats run parallel, they might be projecting false projections some times. Let's break 2003-2016 into phases. 2003-2005 This was an era undoubtedly belonged to Federer. He raked 6 Grands Slams during this period, 3 Wimbledon, 2 US Opens and 1 Australian Open. His counterpart Nadal was yet to make impact and won 1 French Open, first of his illustrative tally of 9! जर कुणाला हिंदी चित्रपट संगीताची कथा दोन शब्दांत लिहायची असेल तर ती सचिनदा आणि देव आनंद ह्या फक्त दोन ध्रुवांभोवती गुंफली जाऊ शकते ! खरं म्हणजे त्रिपुराच्या राजघराण्यात वाढलेल्या सचिनदाना संगीताची गोडी लागावी आणि त्या अंकुराचा . वटवृक्ष व्हावा हा एक अद्भुत चमत्कार होता पण तो घडला ! आकाशात बसलेल्या गंधर्वमंडळींना कदाचित त्या राजपुत्राच्या प्रतिभेची कल्पना असावी , म्हणूनच राजघराण्याच्या विरोधात जाऊन गाणे शिकण्याचे धाडस त्यांनी दाखवले . १९३० च्या दशकात त्यांनी रेडिओ आणि बंगाली संगीतात भरपूर मुसाफ़िरी केली आणि १९४४ मध्ये अशोक कुमारांच्या काही चित्रपटांसाठी संगीत देण्यासाठी मुंबई गाठली . पुढील काही वर्षात त्यांना यश मिळालेही पण हळव्या मनाच्या बर्मन दादांना मुंबईची स्पर्धा रुचली नाही आणि ते . कलकत्त्याला परत जाण्यासाठी अगदी रेल्वेमध्ये बसलेही होते पण तसे होणे नव्हते , त्याना मनधरणी करून परत नेण्यात आले आणि पुढचा इतिहास आहे ! देव आनंद - लाहोर वरुन मुंबईमध्ये ४० च
